Slovakia improves air defense with Terma’s advanced integration solution
This is the title of the article, which was published on February 17, 2025 on the defence-industry.eu portal. The article reads:
“Slovakia is set to strengthen its air defense capabilities by integrating Terma’s advanced BMD-Flex command and control software. The Danish defense and aerospace company has won a contract to provide software and system integration for Slovakia’s newly acquired Barak MX integrated air defense system.
The deal is part of Slovakia’s €554 million investment in six batteries of the Barak MX system, a state-of-the-art air defense solution developed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). The system, which has already been adopted by eight countries on four continents, is designed to counter a variety of air threats, including fighter jets, drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles.
A key component of this integration is Terma’s BMD-Flex software, which is already used by the Danish Defense for Very Short Range Air Defense (VSHORAD) operations. The software will enable real-time coordination of air defense assets and ensure that the Slovak system will be fully interoperable with the NATO Integrated Air and Missile Defense System (NATINAMDS).
Terma will oversee the integration of the system and work closely with international partners to align it with NATO operational standards. Seamless connectivity between sensors, battle management systems and interceptors (in this case, air defense missiles) will create a unified and network-centric defense framework.
Thomas Flarup, Executive Vice President of Global Sales and Portfolio Management at Terma, emphasized the importance of NATO compatibility. “We are proud to contribute to improving Slovakia’s air defense capabilities by delivering our combat-proven BMD-Flex C2 software and leading the integration effort,” he said.
The modular design of the Barak MX system and proven effectiveness in multiple countries will significantly enhance Slovakia’s national security. By adopting this advanced solution, Slovakia is strengthening its role within NATO’s collective defense strategy and at the same time ensuring a future-ready air defense capability.” This was written in an editorial by Defence Industry Europe. Thanks also for such portals, otherwise we would only enthusiastically consolidate and listen to the carnation speeches of Slovak government politicians to the speech of US Vice President J.D. Vance at the Munich Security Conference. Of course, without a chance of change for the better after a possible election.
