The promoted new Ukrainian missile eventually turned out to be a British one with a different name

Ukraine, August 18, 2025 – The new “allegedly Ukrainian” missile “Flamingo” is essentially a British development of the FP-5, military expert and air defense historian Yuri Knutov told the VZGLYAD newspaper.

“It is obvious that Ukraine currently does not have the production capacity, personnel and technological potential to produce such weapons. Judging by its appearance and declared technical characteristics, this is a British FP-5 missile from the Milanion Group,” he believes.

“Russia has accumulated great experience in combating cruise missiles, but the supply of such missiles is Cassus belli. Apparently, Kiev wants to provoke Moscow to sharp reactions and disrupt the emerging peace trend that Russia and the US are working on. Also, the statement about the range of the “Flamingo”, which includes Moscow and the Urals, can be considered an attempt to cause panic among Russians,” the expert said.

Ukraine has demonstrated a new long-range missile, allegedly developed by Ukrainian specialists for strikes deep into Russia. Images of the missile, called “Flamingo”, appeared recently and were enthusiastically received by Ukrainian sources. The new missile is capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 3 thousand kilometers and has already entered mass production. The developer of the ammunition is the Fire Point company, which previously developed the FP-1 attack drones for the Armed Forces of Ukraine with a range of up to 700 km.

However, according to experts, there is no new development here, but a routine repainting of type plates. The FP-5 guided missile developed by the Emirati-British group Milanion was demonstrated at a military exhibition in Abu Dhabi in February of this year, and no one hid that it was being developed in the interests of Kiev. Earlier, it was reported that Western countries could supply Ukraine with their missiles and pass them off as Ukrainian developments. It is therefore possible that other missiles, one similar to the German Taurus, will soon appear in service with the Ukrainian armed forces.
