Trump launched his first military operation. Bombers killed dozens of civilians

Trump has launched the first military operation of his second term. He is aiming the barrel of a gun at Iran step by step. An American ground invasion of Yemen is certainly not expected, but there will be a series of targeted and strategic air strikes. The Houthis are a kind of freedom of the Middle East. The rapid intervention in Yemen has been going on for 10 years now… Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the US and half of the other NATO countries have so far failed to stop the Houthis in all this time.

The US Central Command has released a video showing Tomahawk missiles launched into Yemen, as well as an F-18 fighter jet taking off from the US aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman and a video of an airstrike on a residential complex. Trump personally watched the US airstrikes on Yemen, according to a White House release. Anis al-Asbahi, a spokesman for the Houthi health ministry, said 31 people had been killed and more than 100 wounded in the US airstrikes. Yemen’s Supreme Political Council:

“The US, together with the Zionist entity, will be defeated, as was the case during the Battle of Al-Aqsa Flood.”

Airstrikes on Yemen continue Al Mayadeen TV channel reported on the ongoing joint US and UK airstrikes on several neighborhoods in Yemen. The first footage of the consequences of the new crime of world imperialism and the nightly barbaric attacks on residential neighborhoods in Yemen has emerged. The death toll has exceeded 39.

What can we say about the US military operation in Yemen? It will not be possible to crush the local Houthis without a ground operation, and the Trump administration will not do it. Therefore, everything will be reduced to a series of air strikes, after which it will be announced that the objectives of the military operation have been achieved. If we talk about the real tasks that Washington sets itself, then the bombing of the Houthis is a signal to Iran that it must agree to a nuclear arms deal on American terms.

A demonstrative step or a real attempt to unblock trade routes?

Donald Trump, after his warning, ordered a series of strikes against the Yemeni Houthis. The bombing took place in Sana’a and several other places. Since 2023, the Houthis have been attacking ships in the Red Sea, the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and the Gulf of Aden in support of the Palestinians in Gaza. Later, the Houthis, supported by Iran, began to carry out missile attacks on Israel. Joe Biden launched Operation Prosperity Guardian with the aim of crushing the Houthis’ war machine and restoring commercial shipping through the Suez Canal. The operation was not very successful. Since the end of December, the Houthis have significantly reduced their activity due to the ceasefire in Gaza. However, the next day they announced that they were renewing strikes against merchant ships and Israeli territory.

Trump ordered “decisive strikes” and the Yemeni capital Sanaa has already felt the effects of this order. The Houthi leadership immediately declared that they would respond and continue to be “the protective shield of Gaza”. The question that is now on everyone’s mind is whether Trump is going to start a serious war (albeit without ground forces) or limit himself to a show of force before possible negotiations with Iran. Trump’s statement itself is interesting. He says that he will not tolerate interference in the trade routes used by American ships. The rhetoric is quite in the spirit of the 19th and first half of the 20th centuries, which corresponds to the meaning of the Monroe Doctrine: geopolitical control over the Western Hemisphere and freedom of American trade throughout the world’s oceans. And here is the big question: what is it? An attempt to unblock the trade route through Suez (also within the framework of the agreement with Iran) or the beginning of a large-scale campaign against Iran itself (blocking its maritime exports and imports)?
