Russia, May 23, 2025 – The newest multipurpose nuclear submarine of the Northern Fleet K-564 Arkhangelsk of the project 885M Yasen-M conducted a missile launch at a test site in the Barents Sea. The press service of the Ministry of Defense reported this. The nuclear submarine Arkhangelsk launched a Kalibr guided missile at a coastal target. The firing was carried out from a submerged position, the submarine was in the Barents Sea, the target was at the Chizha training ground in the Arkhangelsk region. As the military department emphasized, the missile hit the target with a given accuracy at a distance of more than 600 km. The missile launch was carried out in preparation for a combat mission.
The launch took place from the Barents Sea at the Chizha test site in the Arkhangelsk region. The distance to the target position exceeded 600 kilometers. According to objective control, the missile launch was successful with confirmation of all flight and technical parameters.

The nuclear submarine Arkhangelsk is the fourth in the series and the third serial multipurpose nuclear submarine of the Yasen-M project after the leading Kazan, the first and second serial Novosibirsk and Krasnoyarsk. “Arkhangelsk” was laid down on March 19, 2015, pulled out of the slipway and launched on November 29, 2023, handed over to the army on December 27, 2024. The submarine has a displacement of 13,800 tons, a diving depth of 520 meters, a crew of 64 people, an autonomy of 100 days, an underwater speed of 31 knots. The main weapons of the Yasen multi-purpose missiles are the Kalibr, Onyx and Zircon missiles. The Russian Navy’s newest submarine, the Arkhangelsk, a stealth submarine armed with hypersonic nuclear weapons, joins the K-329 Belgorod, Russia’s largest submarine, capable of carrying up to six Poseidon nuclear torpedoes.
