Video: Iran unveils new generation air defense system

Iran, March 3, 2025 – Iran has unveiled a new and significantly improved version of its Bavar 373 anti-aircraft missile system, marking a significant leap in Iran’s military potential, especially in the field of air defense. The Bavar 373-II has several technological improvements that make it a more formidable player in the regional air defense arena. One of the most significant improvements is the availability of independent launchers. In this new configuration, each TELAR (Transporter Erector) missile is equipped with its own radar, allowing for autonomous operation. This improvement means that each launcher can now detect, track, and engage air targets without the need for a central radar system, allowing for greater operational flexibility.

The Bavar 373-II features increased target detection and tracking range, two key shortcomings of its predecessor. The most notable improvement is its increased range. The introduction of Sayyad 4B missiles, Iran’s advanced air-to-surface missile and anti-missile technology, has increased the Bavar 373-II’s range from 200 km to 300 km. Experts the publication spoke to note that as the regional situation develops, the Bavar 373-II will become an important part of Iran’s broader defense network, further strengthening its role as a key player in the Middle East.

Recently, there have been reports that Israel could attack Iran as early as this fall. According to former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense of the United States and former US Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro, Washington and Tel Aviv may make the corresponding decision together.
