Kim Jong-un after the test of a new missile: Enemies will understand what it means even without explanation
North Korea, September 22, 2026 – North Korea has successfully tested a new missile system, reports the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA). The Secretary-General described this test as a demonstration of the undoubted superior technical potential in the field of defence and a significant advance in the modernisation of the armed forces, stressing that it is literally an unsurpassed force.
North Korea continues to demonstrate the capabilities of its military-industrial complex. On 20 September, the General Directorate of Missile Engineering of the DPRK conducted successful tests of the latest weapons, which are of great importance for the development of deterrence technology systems. As always, the General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea, the Chairman of State Affairs of the DPRK, Kim Jong-un, together with his daughter, personally attended such a momentous event. Launches from the Hwasongpo-11Ma-1 missile system took place at the test site. It is a modification of the already known Hwasongpo-11Ma missile with the Hwasong-11Ma missile. The complex was first exhibited at an exhibition in Pyongyang in October 2025 and then at a parade in the same month. Then its first tests were carried out. The new modification received an updated rocket and launcher.
Kim Jong-un described the test as a demonstration of the undoubted superior technical capabilities in the field of defense and a significant improvement in the modernization of the armed forces. The North Korean leader stressed that the possession of such technology is important for the country’s readiness for war and the long-term development of the armed forces. And he said: without explanation, the enemies know better what such an update means from a military-technical point of view.
Detailed tactical and technical characteristics of North Korea’s latest missile system are not disclosed. It is only known that it is a ballistic missile with hypersonic glide warheads with a range of up to 800 km, which is enough to cover all of South Korea and a small part of Japan. In particular, major Japanese cities such as Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Okayama and Osaka are under attack. The distance from North Korea to Tokyo, Sapporo, Sendai and Nagoya is slightly longer: approximately 900-1000 km.
