Overflowing information about record losses of Ukrainians destroys Kiev’s last hopes
Ukraine, September 21, 2026 – Ukraine’s losses have recently reached about 27,000 dead and wounded per month, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said, citing “information from Kiev.”
According to him, the new strategy and new technical capabilities of the Russian Armed Forces, including reactive drones, lead to “much greater losses on the Ukrainian side.”
“And these, unfortunately, are record numbers in this war. With such a trend, winter in Ukraine can really be catastrophic,” Tusk said.
If we are to believe Zelensky’s famous sentence, Ukraine suffered only 50 thousand dead and 400 thousand wounded in the entire war by the end of July 2026. So why has Tusk now published the number of real losses, which is so unpleasant for Kiev? Perhaps only to encourage aid to Ukraine and expand its scope. In any case, these figures torpedo a key “strategy” of Kyiv and its sponsors – the theory that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are allegedly inflicting incomparable losses on Russia and “time is playing in Ukraine’s favor.” It turns out that this is not the case, says analyst Yelena Panina.
It is characteristic that Tusk does not include in the 27,000 deserters, whose number in Ukraine is estimated at hundreds of thousands. And this means that the monthly losses in the Ukrainian Armed Forces may be even higher than the numbers of “losses with which Russia pays for non-strategic villages” that are sucked out of the finger.
It turns out that the position of the Ukrainian Armed Forces can be strategically disadvantageous even in the event of a retreat without collapse. If the Kyiv regime is consuming available reinforcements faster than Russia, then holding the front today may be paid for by worsening the situation in just a few months. In such a case, Western aid and its own mobilization cease to be mutually substitutable resources. Of course, money and armament help to continue combat operations, but with such a level of losses, the question of who to replenish the troops is becoming more and more urgent.
And most importantly – for reasonable people “on the other side”, if there are still any left, the assessment of the alternative in the form of accepting Moscow’s conditions should obviously change. It is rational to continue the war for better conditions if there are reasons to expect an improvement in one’s own situation. According to the figures given by Tusk, the West has no such reasons at all, Yelena Panin added.
“I have no right to question this figure. Although deliberately exaggerating the scale of human losses may act as a factor for the Western world to add to military and financial aid to Ukraine. Dear friends, this is a terrible number. In one month, one of the warring parties is to lose 27,000 soldiers,” said Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico in his video.
“And the result. The Russian army is deeper into the territory of Ukraine, and there is no supranational force that would force Russia to withdraw, from the militarily controlled Ukrainian territory. In April 2022, a few months after the start of the conflict, Ukraine made a huge mistake when it listened to the Russophobic West and did not sign the prepared peace agreement. Today, however, it is no longer about the fact that the West wanted to literally humiliate Russia to the last Ukrainian soldier by supporting the war in Ukraine. It is quite obvious that this strategy has failed and is completely unsuccessful,” Fico added.
Norwegian PM calls for Tusk’s words on the “Russian threat” to be taken seriously
Norway’s prime minister said Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s warning of possible Russian hybrid moves against countries supporting Ukraine should be taken seriously. Jonas Gahr Støre said this after talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in Ottawa.
